The stigma of mental illness is slowly given way to understanding and empathy due to a board campaign of educating the public.
However, little to no material exists for very young children to be educated in the same way they are about physical injuries.

01 brief
The societal perception surrounding mental illness is gradually evolving toward greater understanding and empathy, thanks to a comprehensive public education campaign.
However, there remains a dearth of materials tailored for educating very young children in a manner akin to how they learn about physical injuries. A book aimed at children under 10 was deemed necessary, one that would be engaging and communicate in a language comprehensible to this age group.

From the curated shortlist, a font was selected and subsequently tested by its application to the content. The finalised choice, A Little Sunshine Medium, emerged as the standout option after presenting it to children within the target age range.
illustration
The illustration styles in children's books span from digitally rendered bold lines and vibrant colors to traditional pastel media with soft blends. Given the subject matter, a traditional approach was deemed fitting to create a sense of comfort in the theme, allowing both the child and the adult reading to them to engage with a familiar style.

04 layout
Upon examining a collection of children's books within the specified age range, it became evident that a proven and effective format involved dedicating one sentence per page, complemented by a full-page illustration.
This approach ensures that the text is easily accessible, unobstructed by a background, allowing it to stand out distinctly without appearing cluttered.
