SPACE RACE posters
Create a poster collection of illustrations that celebrate the space program while including the equivalent like-for-like developments of the USSR.
01 brief
In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Space Race, a curated series of professionally designed posters showcasing cross sections of spacecraft from both the United States and the Soviet Union has been meticulously crafted through comprehensive research of the selected spacecraft.
02 research
​Extensive research involved the examination of hundreds of authentic photographs sourced from historical libraries. This focused on obtaining interior shots and technical schematics of selected spacecraft. The emphasis was on cross-sectional illustrations aimed at unveiling the intricacies beneath the surface.
03 development
Incorporating elements from the subject's interior as a backdrop not only added depth to the overall design but also served an educational purpose.

The depicted image (below) showcases the vehicle illustration process, beginning with the establishment of vanishing point lines to ensure accurate perspective.

Subsequently, the exterior is meticulously drawn before identifying the most compelling sections for a cross-sectional view, providing insight into the vehicle's interior.
Next the colour is added in Adobe Illustrator and then imported into Adobe Photoshop to add texture
and style.

This collection comprises four key space vehicles integral to the historic space race, enticing collectors to acquire the entire set.
